A bit about us

We are the community primary school of Shawbury village, nestled in the heart of the beautiful North Shropshire countryside. We currently provide educational facilities for children from 3 years old in our purposefully built nursery and foundation accomodation, up to Year 6. We have 4 classrooms from the Foundation stage to Year 6.

Our exciting “Extended Schools” provision is now flourishing, giving the opportunity for our children to attend a “Breakfast Club” from 7.45am,  Lunch Club and after school care from 3.00pm until 6.00pm. This has gone very well so far with much positivity from parents, carers, staff and children. A successful holiday club in the summer was repeated in the October half term. Please contact the school for any information about the Extended Schools care.  Our Extended Schools children have a brand new purpose-built kitchen installed, which will also be used for cooking lessons for all children.

A bit about our curriculum……

The Creative Curriculum

A lot has been written recently about the curriculum being offered to children in Primary schools. We at Shawbury would like to think that we are at the forefront in creative curriculum development in our locality. An exciting curriculum taught in an imaginative way is offered to all our children. Read on for our policy statements and beliefs behind this innovative way of teaching.

Teaching and Learning at Shawbury Primary School

Real… Relevant… Local.

The key to effective learning at school is excellent teaching based on an outstanding curriculum.  Essentially, the curriculum is a way of describing exactly what is being taught.

At Shawbury, the school has designed a curriculum fit for the 21st Century, personal to our school and for our children. It is known as ‘The Creative Curriculum’.

The Creative Curriculum sets out the key skills and attitudes that children are expected to develop and learn at primary school, from Nursery to Year 6, before moving to secondary school as 11 year olds.

Although the teaching of English and Mathematics is taught separately, much of the rest of what is taught has strong links between subject areas.  This makes learning more interesting, enjoyable and relevant for children, so that:

Lessons are interesting, stimulating and fun, where children have the opportunity to learn through first hand, multi-sensory experiences, which are relevant to our children and personal to our school.

Children feel cared for and are happy, secure, motivated and  stimulated.

The learning environment is well organised, attractive, motivating and  positive.

Learning tasks are organised in small steps.

Children experience a variety of learning situations, both indoors and outdoors, using our local area and links with local businesses.

Expectations are high and aim for high standards.

Feedback is positive and helps children to improve.

            Timetabling provides opportunities for flexibility.

            Spontaneity and creativity is encouraged.

Children are involved in the planning and reviewing of topics.
